Low Residue Diet Purpose of this diet: This diet decreases the amount of residue in the gastrointestinal tract. It is used for situations such as diverticulitis, diarrhea, ulcerative colitis, and colostomies. This diet is sometimes used prior to or following surgery on the intestinal tract.
